How to Take a Screenshot on your iPhone or iPad

If you ever need to take a screenshot of your iPhone or iPad screen for blogging, sharing a how to or just to remember what apps you have, here’s how.

  • On iPhones with Face ID – press the side button and volume up button briefly at the same time. Release quickly.
  • A thumbnail will appear in your lower left screen.
  • Tap to open it or swipe left to delete.
  • On iPhones with Touch ID and SIDE button – press the SIDE button and HOME button briefly at the same time. Quickly let go.
  • A thumbnail will appear in your lower left screen.
  • Tap to open it or swipe left to delete.
  • On iPhones with Touch ID and TOP button – press the TOP button and HOME button briefly at the same time. Quickly let go.
  • A thumbnail will appear in your lower left screen.
  • Tap to open it or swipe left to delete.

Once you tap your screenshot to open it, you can tap the Share icon in the top right corner to share it. Your screen should look like this.

Once you’ve shared it, you’ll get a screen like this. Tap Airdrop (circled) to save it to downloads or Photos. 

Or tap the message or email or other icons to share there. 

If you share it with Airdrop, wait a few minutes for the symbol to pop up.

A copy of your screenshot will be in Photos > Albums > Screenshots.

  • On an iPad with Face ID – press the top button and volume up button at the same time. Release quickly. A thumbnail will appear in your lower left screen. Tap to open it or swipe left to delete.
  • On an iPad with Touch ID – press the top button and HOME button at the same time. Release quickly. A thumbnail will appear in your lower left screen. Tap to open it or swipe left to delete.

Follow the same instructions for the iPad as you would for an iPhone to share and save your screenshot.
